Skin Care

When it comes to our lips, there are several things we should know and do to care for them. Lipstick is usually not the answer for moisturizing dry chapped lips. Women who wear lipstick usually end up ingesting it especially if they are lip biters. It is very important to take extra care of your lips during extreme hot and cold weather. Your lips become extra dry, crusty and start to peel if you don't apply a lip moisturizer, which can be in the form of a chapstick or some other type of lip balm. People have a habit of licking their lips when they are chapped which in turn makes the problem worse, because the saliva forms a lens which only intensifies the sun's rays on the skin.

It is better to use a lip balm that protects against UVA (Ultraviolet A) and UVB (Ultraviolet B) throughout the year. You can find many varieties of lip balms and sunscreen products in almost any marketplace. Some balms contain vitamin E, Aloe Vera, and certain oil products. Using a lip balm with a sun protection factor of SPF-15 will protect your lips longer than one with a lower SPF balance. If you wear lipstick or lip gloss, make sure you apply a layer of sunscreen underneath. Also, look for a PABA free lip balm product, since PABA can cause allergies to develop in some people, and making the lips susceptible to sunburn.

Drinking plenty of water is great for keeping moisture in your lips from the inside. Vitamin deficiency could cause a person to have dry cracked lips. Keep lip balm around, in your purse, your car, where it can be handy to reach throughout your day to maintain lip moisture. It is also good to keep lip balm beside your bed to use at night before you get to sleep.
